Pressure Vessel shell failure

The photograph below shows the failure of the shell of a pressure vessel.

This Italian receiver has been imported fully CE marked but was simply not fit for purpose.

The wall thickness of the cylinder is very marginal at just over 2.5 mm thick and has no allowance for bearing with the load and vibration of a compressor on the saddle – let alone being of sound thickness for holding the pressure.
Our equivalent 270 L horizontal receiver has a 5 mm shell thickness !

Vibration from the compressor mounted on top has caused the shell to crack – fortunately the crack was localised the escaped and no one was injured.
