An Introduction
George William Price was one of a family of six sons and a daughter of a Leicestershire farmer and corn merchant. Very early in life he decided to leave the traditional family trades and joined, as an apprentice, a small lace finishing firm in Nottingham run by a Mr. Gabbett. After a short time he left this firm to become salesman for another Nottingham lace firm which, at a later stage, became Joseph Truman and Company Limited. His success as a salesman was very largely responsible for the development and progress of that Company, and he built up particularly good connections in Canada. Because of his ability, he was very soon appointed a Director by his new employers.
